Principal’s Website Welcome

Important Reminders

Welcome to Don Ross Secondary School, a Grade 8 and 9 school with “middle years programming”. The purpose of “middle years programming” is to provide a school setting that takes into consideration the period from childhood to adolescence. In looking at the characteristics of younger teenaged students, we realize that they are undergoing many intellectual, physical, social and emotional changes at this time. Don Ross Secondary offers a program of instruction designed to build and upgrade communication skills, as well as provide a range of exploratory opportunities in a variety of subject areas.

All students participate in: Math, English, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education U.S.S.R. (Uninterrupted Sustained Silent Reading), French Immersion, French or Skwxwu7mesh – Squamish Nation Language and Cultural Studies. One of the most exciting parts of the Middle Years Program is our Fine Arts program including: Band or Explore - a rotating program Art, Drama, Dance, Choir, and Media & Social Responsibility; and an Applied Arts rotation: Home Economics (Foods/Textiles), Info Technology, Trades Technology (Wood/Metal), and our Junior Outdoor Education program. At the Grade 9 level, we offer an advanced year in the Applied Arts rotation and students may elect to take a full year of Music or Art, Drama/Musical Theatre, Leadership or Yearbook.

In addition, Don Ross Secondary has a first-rate Learning Strategies Department to assist those students needed extra help to maximize their learning success. Our Counselling Department is available to assist students with all aspects of junior high school life especially their social, emotional, intellectual development.
